Brands Hatch 22/10/06

Well what a day! who would have thought the 2wd Focus would be beating 4wd Escort Cosworths!

The day began with an early start and the only qualifying of the day which was a dry session, where we placed 6th with 4 Cosworths ahead and a Mk1 Escort also ahead, behind was 1 more Cosworth, a Mk3 Escort XR3i, a MK2 Fiesta XR2, and a MK3 Fiesta Si.

The race was due at 3pm so we had nearly the whole day to ready the car and wait for the race. Once everything was prepared we went and watched some of the other cars do their races which was a lot of fun in the wet weather!

With the wet weather not letting off we set the car up for wet weather and Mike headed over to the assembly area, as it was a non championship race we decided to watch away from the pit lane for once so we could see more of the track.

The race begun and Mike was hot on the heels of one of the Escort Cosworths already, a few laps in the XR3i spun at paddock hill bend and landed up in the gravel, the race was red flagged and stopped so the car could be removed from the gravel. Lined up once again they set off. Mike was still having a good battle with the same Cosworth again and eventually got past and held a comfortable gap for the remainder of the race, however what he didn't realize was one of the top 3 Escorts had dropped out and retired to the pits for an unknown reason. This left him 3rd overall for the finish of the race.
